I measured the overflows on the 220 this morning. Each one is 5"x5". And the bulkhead is mounted almost center in the overflow. I'll have at MOST 3" of clearance for positioning the standpipe. I bought a couple pieces of pvc from lowes today, and I'm going to see if I can get a modified durso standpipe to fit. If not, I'll be going with the hofer or stockman style.

i had the same issues in my 150g. the space was really tight. so i cut down the fittings with a hacksaw, the part where the tee connects to the elbow. you save a lot of space by doing this. you just need enough 'lip' for it to grab, which isnt much. you can make a very compact standpipe by doing this

Exactly what I was planning to do. I was going to cut it back to about 1/4" - 3/8" joint. This would give me the most leeway possible.

I may also end up drilling new holes and installing larger bulkheads in the bottom. The drain lines are both 1" (I believe), and so will only drain a combined 1,200gph at max flow. I am going to be running a mag 18 at about 4' of head, so I should be above that 1,200gph mark. I may need to increase to 1.25" or 1.5" (more likely, because of availability of bulkheads) just to handle my water flow. In that case, i can reposition the bulkhead in the bulkhead to a degree, and hopefully make it easier to fit a durso standpipe.

been there, done that.

works great!

Ive never heard of the Hofer and Stockman, and always had Dursos, but for 2 or 3 bucks, my next HD run(usually every other day) will get the PVC for at least one of them- Ill report back and let you all know what I find-

I am running 2 1" drains to a Mag 18 with no problem. I can turn off one of the drains and my drain will keep up with it no problem. So dont go drilling larger holes.

Cool, let me know. I probably won't get to it this weekend after all :(.

Nice, thanks for the info. I guess I'll go with what I've got, and if I need to I'll go with bigger holes (since I do already have some larger bulkheads).

Yeah the Mag18 will not supply enough volume for two 1" drains @ 5' head. I used a Mag18 and a Mag7 and still could not satisify the drains. Swapped them out for a Danner Hy-Drive 3200.

I am using the megaflow durso kits in our sumped tanks and what they did to get around the tight confines is use thin wall PVC. Might want to look into a design like theirs.

Well, the tank actually came with a pair of standpipes, which are somewhat sort of like the Hofer standpipes. I'm going to look them over and see what the differences are, and if I might be able to use them. Otherwise I might just go with a Hofer, since the overflow is really tight. I don't think even thin wall pvc would give me the clearance I need for a durso. I'm also going to try cutting back the joints on the pvc to see if a modified durso will fit...
