Plumbing advice needed - closed loop system

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I mis-spoke when I said overflow, it is actually just a drain, just like a canister without the canister. :)

Each jet should have about 150 gph so it won't be over powering but it should provide plenty of power to keep most of the waste off of the substrate. On each side of the tank there will be a spray bar, each with about 900 gph of flow.

150gph is about half what you're going to want it to be... I'm not trying to be a debbie downer but mine are 360 gph and I expected to see more... um whoosh if you know what I mean.... I'd try it full blast first with no valves.... See how you like it then if you feel it needs toned down then cut the pipe and add the valves. But I don't think that'll happen... Why waste the $$ on the valves if you don't have to is what I'm getting at... You can always add them but you can;t return them if you glue em in :)

I guess if nothing else I'll get in there and cap off a couple of the jets. :) I understand what you are saying about the ball valves but I am going to go ahead and put them in just in case I have to do maintenance at some point down the road. I would rather spend the few extra bucks now than to regret it later.

I will start them out at full power though and hope that I'm not dissapointed. If I am I'll just rip the whole thing out, sell the pump and go with a normal tank without the ugj system. :) I do think if it has twice the power it has now I will be pretty satisfied with it. I've been wrong before though and I have certainly tried things that didn't turn out as expected.

Oh yeah, just spent another $170 on pvc and connectors!!!

I've spent over $400 on pvc and connectors for this tank. I still have no idea how though. :( I still remember when I was planning on this being a very budget friendly setup. :)

Guess you will really find it amazingly stupid that I spent $415 making my wet/dry. :(

Your not supposed to buy PVC parts from mexicans on the side of the street that put a 120% upcost to what they paid at home depot!!
