Bought this current house last year, and it had plumbing in the basement for a sink (a drain and two water lines). We never used it but now i'm moving a tank down there and want to hook it up. Long story short i now know the size on the valves is 1/2". What i don't know, is what i am doing wrong or what hose i need. I bought a handful of them and they all leak at the nut on the hose...not the valve, or the connection. What am i doing wrong?

rubber washer and latex tape the threads is my guess. and do not over tighten. it will smash the washer and it will fail.

If the male side is rusty on the rim, you need to clean it up or if pitted to bad replace it.

should be able to clean that up a bit and make it work. basically its no dif than water hose hookup. Hand tighten it up, then throw 1/4 to half turn with a wrench. and use the latex tape. again with a washer.

hm i'll give it another shot. I would understand if the connection was leaking, but i couldn't for the life of me understand why the hoses themselves leak. The new hoses have a rubber washer in them, is that good enough? should i pull one out of my spare hose and put it in the valve?

should be, if its leaking from the hose clamp that attaches the hose to the fitting, that is a defect of the manufacture. new hose should never leak there.
