Brain bulb activate!!!!! SUMP PUMP!! could I drain the tanks into the basements existing sump pump, or is that a bad idea? Also just about this for a second, I have a washer in the basement (no wash/drain tub though), so it is being fed water, I wonder how much it would cost to get a little hose faucet added?

Man! Now we're getting some info. I ran a tub/sink with running water from my washer. Talk to someone at Home Depot, they'll get you everything you need. Cost me about $60. Well worth it. As for the sump pump, it should work fine! Where does it pump the water tho? outside? I find it weird that you don't have a floor drain in your basement...

just a sump pump, unless there some hidden drain somewhere (I'll check it out when I get home). This may work out pretty good.

You have several cheap ways you can do this.
If you have a washer in your basement, then you are set. Just unhook the cold side of your washer and hook a hose to it. will hook rt up.
If you want cold and hot water from your washer, buy a "Y" connector for it. Something like this will work. Will need to get small short sections of hose like another set of washer hoses to hook to it. Simply unhook your washer when you are doing water changes and hook this up. then rehook washer when finished so wife doesnt get mad..lol

here is a cheap, connector for your Kitchen faucet. I have one just like it. You can get this on ebay. here is the link if you want to do it this way. you will be able to control temp, and easy on and off set up. Just need a garden hose that will reach into your basement and fill your tanks

check ebay for small electric water pumps. If all you are going to use it for is to drain once and awhile, a simple one will do for that. they range from 17.00 to 30 bucks on ebay..

If you already have a sump in your basement or a drain hole, (if you are in a older home, in your area there will already be a drain. Newer homes might not have them since basement are being used more for living and less for storage like the old days) then you are set even more, Just drain into the hole. as long as you are not draining your tank faster than the hole will drain or sump pump will keep u, you are fine...

hope that helps and is a cheaper way for you to do this...

I have my 110, 80, 60, and two 55 gallon tanks in my basement. You can do this. Dig a hole in your basement and put a sump pump in there and add the pvc tubing so the water can go up and pump the water out through the window. My sump pump would push the water up to about 6 feet straight up to push the water up and outside. For me I let all the water drain on the floor and the sump pump will take in and out.

If you want to add water, look in your home and see if any of your faucets can be attached to a water hose. You would have to buy a faucet adaptor for a water hose. Then you can hook it up there and add water with hot or cold.

It might be too complicated but it works for me. A good plumber should advice this and do it this way.

I drain all of my water out through my sump pump in the basement. I was under the impression that you had no plumbing whatsoever. You're set if you have a washer and a sump pit. You should be good to go with warm water and somewhere to drain.

awesome, thanks guys.

Where does the washer drain? Does it go into a pit and is pumped out by the sump pump? If you use the washer, I don't think I would want to be switching hoses back and forth all the time. I assume its an unfinished basement and that the plumbing for the washer is exposed. You should easily be able to splice into the existing water lines and install additional faucets for your aquarium. Due to your location and the description of the basement, it sounds like you have a very old house, maybe even a rock basement?

plus, of you have a washer in the basement already, then there is a drain also.
take a water hose from your tank to the washer drain and syphen it.. can just drain the tank water rt out the same pipe the washer drains into.
then use the faucet your washer gets water from and hook the hose up to and refil the tank.
easy.. all you need is a water hose.
