im planning on making a plywood tank.i was thinking about doing either a 100 gallon or 120...if i do this, what grade of plywood would i need? any suggestions on wat im gonna need will be greatly appreciated

I would go with a 8x2x2 (240 Gallon) like I am doing. Good first time tank, can be build with just 2 sheets of plywood. I am using 7 ply Cabinet grade plywood, but some use exterior grade. Personally I would not go less than A/C grade plywood.

Good Luck

Hey, we made a plywood tank we used WSBP three quarter inch thick, cut the preferred size of tank you want. We used 4x60 screws, applied every three inches around the ply. We then covered it in fibre glass matt polyesther resin... we used about 15 litres we made a 300 gallon tank. We layerd the fibre glass and resin over and over leaving to dry each time we added a new layer (abour 24-48 hours) We used 10mm plate (not toughened as with pressure it is stronger) We used polytherene glue instead of silicone to attach the glass to the tank. We made the lid from perspex and attached piano hinges so that it opens easily for feeding etc... We made the light out of solis wood and a strip light. We constructed braces from welding steel to fit the top and added layers of fibre matt and polythere in areas in the tank... I think thats it I added a video for u too see ... its stillnot finished :(... also looks ALOT different now :) heres a vid so you can have a look :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX9BncvemGY

thanks for your suggestions guys...im completely new to doing anything diy with my tanks.i dont want a tank TOO big because im not gonna have enough room for something that massive.also, im new to sumps and all that good stuff so any info on that would help too.and do you guys know a price range? say i just went 125g to 150g

Figure the sealant is gonna run you $100, The ply another $50, glass, $100. These are just the big name items.
