holy crap that crap is a BAMF!! how long have you had him and how big was he when you found him?
i think that thing in a tank is all together a bad idea. hes obviously going to mess with everything he can so sooner rather than later i'm sure he would rip all the silicone out, break all plumbing and tear through any liner/sealant. i would definitely go with a stock tank, it might be ugly, but you can build a frame for it very cheaply that is insulated. also a strong lid would be a good idea. that way you know youre house is safe, and your crab. if he can break coral like that, he can break acrylic too.

Yeah, all acrylic tank was my first thought, but Glass cages wants $1200.
I am pricing some 1" thick glass. (30x30). An all glass tank 1" thick should hold him for a while. He will grow to become 15-18 inches wide in the body with a 26" claw to claw span. That is what I am thinking will be the problem. He is still a baby! He is 9" wide right now, remember that tank is 24" wide and he takes up alot of it! At 1:26 in the video minutes he takes up half the tank! I may actually go 36x36x36!
It boils down to money! I am shy on big dollars right now.(ain't everybody?)

If this crab were mine I would be building a plywood tank with radiused corners like a previous poster mentioned. I would use fiber-filled body filler to make significant radiused fillets in all of the corners.
I would then build up several layers of epoxy and fiberglass. I don't think I would use polyester or vinylester resin.
For viewing I would absolutely choose glass over acrylic. I would use stainless steel to cover any silicone joints between the epoxy and glass.
Also check salvage companies in your area (they strip out businesses before remodels or demolitions) I've seen check cashing and banks stripped of their thick acrylic windows and sold at a very good price.
