plywood paludarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
okay made some real progress over the last few days. sorry for lack of updates but aside from aquarium building we had a tree fall on my uncles house and had to take care of that.
anyway. got my switch run for the led main light and the neon moon lighting. its green but looks good i think.
got all the bulkheads installed and siliconed in. seperated waterfall pool and sealed it up. put in stand pipe. added rocks and some sparghum moss ot the background. the apsrghum moss was attached by mixing the moss with water till it was moist then adding titebond 3 wood glue which is waterproof and secondary food safe or some such anyway. you work it all together in a bucket then lay it on and let it dry. you will find though that if you also are getting constant rain and high humidity that this takes more then 3 days to dry... we will see exactly how long i put some heat lamps on it today so hopefully soon it will dry.
also added more tree roots.
still have to trim the water return pipe to height. cleaned all my glass off today. and ofcourse chipped a corner good thing ive got that 3inch overlap all the way around. so the corner wont be an issue. cut my plexi glass cover for the lights and will silicone that in later tonight.

for the base covered everything in 3/4 inch mdf. routed corners and left a little lip to set tank in and help keep it on top of the stand. stand now weighs about 80 pounds though lol. inside of the stands is being painted with a rubberized sound proofing coating. it is designed for cars but should work good here as its rated for spalshes and humidity etc. hopefully too it will help cut down on any pump noise.

got some more chalk board paint for everything and turns out they make it in green too. and if your not careful you will get one can of green and one of black but luckily they make a nice color when you mix them.

the rest of today will cut my door for the stand. lid for the tank and attach the moon lighting permanently. if everything is dry today i will put in glass tomorrow. and now here is the pictures.

yes and no lol. i got everything plumbed and running for a test for about three days. my sister then moved into a dorm room where my stepmother refused to allow her to keep the aquarium because ofcourse a homemade aquarium is unsafe lol. anyway since then ive got it back at my house and am doing some reworking to fit it into my living room decor. also doing some reconfiguring as ive decided im going to run som glo fish tetras and glow mushrooms on the land area. just deciding on what else to have to run around the upper end of the tank. though of maybe salamander or the like maybe even dart frog but dart frogs arent good swimmers. there is some debate though as to wether i might be able to make it easy enough for them to climb out of the water if they fall in. and keep some pumelos which like to climb stuff. will sned pics as i get rolling along again.
