Thanks!

Yeah, the towers were a nice cheap way to get a fair amount of area to put media in, and it should also help oxygenate the water as it trickles through the draws in the towers.

getting glass through a buisness is usually half the price for the publoic for g james(brand) glass.also look around and remember this; get the cheapest glass avaible, even if the glass is crap quality you dont need to cut it.usually good quality glass is greener then low quality glass. the only difference in good and crap quality ids tiny air bubbles in the glass. low quality cannot be used for tempering. thats the only difference as well as how well it cuts. also remember that off cuts for them are generally 12x3' peices plenty for the average plywood tank. just get a mate or yourself to cut it down. or take it to another company to get it cut!. lastly look around for shop front windows or go to people that take glass from building that are gonna be demolished usually they use 3/8"-3/4"

Mate after reading your experience I think I'm going to go with pond shield rather than fibre glass. What was the cost of shipping if you don't mind my asking and did it work out more economical to bring in the 60sqft containers or 240sqft? Thanks in advance

That entire set up is just awesome! Absolutely love it! :headbang2

I didn't like the idea of fiberglassing due to the dangers of using the resins etc. I am happy as with the pond shield, I did over coat the plywood and timber with it but in the long run it should last longer.

I got 3 kits sent over and it was 90USD for shipping and when I got one kit sent over it was 63USD for shipping .

I checked with customs and because of the low volume and the fact it was for personal use I had no issues there, they opened my second shipment.

One thing I did or didn't do was use some putty on the inside after fitting all the screws to hold the plywood to the 4x2 uprights and I can see where the screws are because the pond shield didn't fill the holes properly not that it's meant to anyway.

Just let me know if you want any advice, also Butch at pond shield was super helpful too. But if they recommend one kit I would be inclined to get a an extra kit or two. I ran out (because I applied to much) and had to wait 2-3 weeks for more to arrive to finish off the tank.

I ended up using 6 kits to do my project.

I have spent about $4000 on this project all up including filtration, lighting, gravel, glass etc.

What size tank are you looking at doing?

Thanks for the response! I've been in touch with Butch and hes let me know the costs for shipping etc already. I intend to build a 12x4x3, its been in the planning stages for about a year now which has changed a lot but I've finally decided on a way to go. Due to the fact it has to fit an exact space (slightly over 12Lx4W) I'm looking at using steel tubing rather than wood as reinforcement to maximise actual tank space.

Awsome Tank Btw!!! Its given me a lot of help and inspiration for mine.

That tank rocks!:headbang2 Makes me want to build one myself.
