Wow I dont know if my strenght is also my weackness you tell me. Today I was walking around the neighborhood and decided to stop at the Petland, when I got there, there was three oscars with severe hole in d head deseasse and stuff. They looked very stremely bad two of them I know wont last till tommorow, however there is one that I think i can save. he doesnt have that many or big holes however his whole half of his boddy its kinda affected. I told the guy at the store that 2morow after class I was going to pick him up. I have a 29 gallon brend new and I will put him there to try and treat him. right now the only medicine I know is meflix, so I guess my question is.........does anyone know of a gud medicine(s) that i can use? Can I mix him with my other oscars without worriing that he will spread the dissease?

PS: Pics of the Poor guy will come soon so you guys know what you are dealing with!

Infected with what beside hole in the head?.... raise temp and adding salt might help and remember to keep the water clean with a lot of aeration when you dose medication.

Poor fishes :( Well to treat the fish you should seperate it from others. Try to Mix up Melafix and Pimafix use both of them they are very good medications and also Prevents, remember to remove any carbon that is in use, raise temp a little, and add some aquarium salt.
Hope this works, Good Luck!! :)

Hole in the head (lateral line erousion) is not a disease, it is typically a result of poor diet and poor enviromental conditions. In some cases, fish with this condition my have hexameta that occours in the digestive tract that can be treated with medicated food. Adding medication to your water does not "cure" this condition. A good method to help correct this is a very clean, stable aquarium with a very high quality diet (no feeders!!!) I personally would soak the food in fresh water Vita-Chem before feeding the oscars. The pitting may or may not go away depending on how bad it is. It is kind of like a scar, you can prevent additional "pits" though. Hole in the head does not kill fish either, if a fish dies that has these symptoms, it is most likley what caused the "pits" that killed it. (Bad water, bad diet, intestinal parasites, etc)

Good luck to you, nice to see some one wanting to help fish in trouble....

WOW and I tought I was going to save him. I got him today at 12:30 and put him in a 29 for now while I m treating him. The scariest thing right now is that he wont eat anything I tried giving him. before i took him the guy at the petstore said he gave him some feeders but i saw he wasnt taking it. I will go ahead with treatment I guess and let you guys know whats going to happen after that.

Howdy,

Way to go. You support a crappy fish store which sells sick fish. You give them your business. You're the man!

I see HarlyK's point and it's a good one. Don't support lousy shops and hopefully they will go away.

I also see the flip side to this, if I saw an animal in a pet shop that was going to die because of the stores incompitance, I would feel inclined to "rescue" the little guy.

Perhaps another way of looking at this is if you save an animal in this type of situation, great, but don't continue to buy your supplies there and educate your fellow aquarium & pet keepers to avoid such a shop.
