Yes, it might go away on its own especially if it's not a bad case. Kno4te's suggestion will help with SBD.

I've never seen this in North America but looks like a water conditioner of some kind so it shouldn't hurt, although probably not necessary.

Did you take a sample of your aquarium water to be tested for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH. If not you will not keep any fish for long.

I sometimes use Arowana Guard -- it's pretty similar to most any water conditioner, but not cheap so not very cost effective, only lasts me 2 water changes. I don't have to use it because I'm on a well, just do it to help remove any heavy metals or such that might be in the water.

Without knowing your water parameters I'm not sure it would help in your situation -- unless you're on tap water and you happened to add untreated water to your tank.
