onw red and blue came out im like sweet next is green (my favorite color and i was one hyperactive little 10yo) took them like 7 YEARS to freaking come out with what i thought was logical progression..
red- charizard
blue- the turtle guy
green- venusaur
the three starter guys

omfg! i used to have all of teh cards in 1at addition. it costed me all of my allowance back in the day when it first came out in 95 or something? i still have the cards if anyone is interested! 
I had all of the games too. I went crazy with it and spent all of my childhood days playing the games and getting all of my guys to level 100. my whole team kicked ass. I had almost all of the same pokemon in my team. I think i had like two mews, two charizards, two blastiose, one venasaur, and a mewtwo on my red version.
