Polar blue female and Flowerhorn male

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys, this has helped me a lot actually. I didn’t know most of this stuff.

Polar parrots are just honduran red points (close cousin to the convict cichlid) with the short body gene. They may have parrot in the name but it's only referencing the body style, there is no BP genes in a polar parrot. It's a common misconception. So no ya won't have any BP traits show at all.
That explains where the blue comes from in the polar blues.

Since the polar blues are short bodied, will it effect the health of her or her offspring (if they have any)?

Some offspring will carry the short body gene, some won’t. The percentage of short body offspring will be higher than those of a regular parent.

Technically yes it will. They body may not grow to it's full size but the organs inside still do. This is why most SB's tend to have the more BP like body style and tend to have a shorter lifespan unlike the BP. The BP is an oddball in that for some reason they don't have the same health issues that a SB would have. I think it's due to them having this weird double ribcage compaired to most other fish.

But yeah overall they will end up having some health issues just by having the SB gene. SB's tend to end up having their lifespan cut short by a couple of years usually, granted some ppl have been able to get them to live as long as their normal counterparts.

I would say for a max size (for the PBP) just look at a golf ball and add some fins on it. No clue how big the PBP x FH hybrids would be tho as HRP's tend to max out at about 6in while FH's can max out anywhere between 8-14in. So they could be anywhere in between 4-14in fully grown depending on what genes they end up with.

Btw this is basically how a BP's ribcage looks, minus the bow string lol. Definitely a weird adaptation and not quite sure where they get it from either as none of the species that go into making a BP have this design as far as I know. Kinda neat tho how their ribcages look and how they almost stretch all the way down to the stomach lining.

So are polar blue males sterile? I’m trying to find stuff in safari but can’t find any info on it.
