I live in an apartment complex, and as a part of a community crime/drug free multi housing unit initiative the property management allows the police to bring a drug dog on the property every so often, sounds like no biggy right??
Wrong! earlier today they were here and the drug dog hit on my door, so i let em in, i mean i got nothin to hide i just told em dont tear up the place (i think the .380 and the .45 i was cleaning before they knocked made them a lil uneasy lmao) , so the dog goes straight to my stand that my 75gal is on and starts scratchin at it (which pissed me off! i worked hard to build that stand and make it look nice i dont need a dog scratching it). So the officer then proceeded to hold me in the other room while the K9 officer douchbag proceeded to take everything out of my stand and string it out on the floor and let the dog play with it all to figure out where the "drugs" were....
Turns out the "drugs" that their mutt found was my amonia test kit!!! they then walked back into the other room where the officer was holding me and informed me of the find and that they were done, they didnt even put my stuff back, left it strung out all over.
I then told them all to get outta my place, and that next time i wouldnt be so cooperative and would demand a warrant before letting them in again.
Can anyone tell me what the hell that dumb mutt thought he was smelling?

Of course, but what in an amonia kit would be indicative of drugs??? thats what i would like to know.
Im seriously pissed about this. I've never been one of those cop hater types, but after this im starting to see why some people do hate them...

Wow dude that sucks! I would be seriously pissed! I have no idea what they could have thought were drugs in the test kit....odd

Who knows lol. That sucks though, sounds very sketchy if you ask me, I wouldn't think that would be legal... And this is why people dislike police... Just doing your thing and dogs and dea are raiding your stuff, while there is probably a meth lab down the road with some guy laughing lol. Not funny, but shows everything wrong with the system IMO

The dog is probably trained to pick up on one of the chemicals in your test kit. One of those could possibly be used in making illegal substances, but I couldn't say either way. Just a guess.

There's nothing unlawful about the landlord letting the police search his property. He has every right to keep illegal substances off of his property. Your personal area starts at the door. Of course, you have the option to let them in or not. All you can do is demand a search warrant.

You have to keep in mind it is their job to enforce the law.

Well while i totally disagree with the idea, i cant say its entirely unlawful. Here in The lovely city of Spindependence (independence, MO) we have a city wide initiative so that apartment complexes get a tax break for now housing repeat felons, allowing police to search the property etc. and the drug dog hitting on my door qualifies as probable cause to search. I think its a lame system just as the rest of our city govt. is. Independence has been rated as one of the most crooked cities in the nation. I truely do despise our city structure here, but cant really afford to move lol.
@ brich thats what i always tell cops that give me trouble. "come on man dont you have somethin worthwhile to do, i mean ya just passed 3 meth labs and crackhouses to get to me. Seriously leave me alone and go do your job" That really pisses em off lol.

Wow! I would have nothing to hide either. I still wouldnt let them in my front door with out a warrant. I was working in my shop and was being loud late at night and the cops just walked right in....I pitched a fit made them get out immediately. They didnt knock or nothing. Funny part is they had to walk through my enclosed porch into my yard to get to my shop door. I filed a complaint but never heard anything about it. I also had an animal control officer come into my yard and was looking in my windows! WTH? Filed a complaint on that too. She wasnt aware I was watchng her

If the searches are a part of normal operations they are most likely mentioned in your lease and by signing the lease you waived the need for them to obtain a warrant.
