I think I'm going to take out everything and start over decor-wise, something definitely is fishy. I'll just go with a simple setup with sand and clay pots, it'll be easier to maintain.

I'd add a second HOB filter to compliment your topfin 60. That should also help add oxygen to the water by adding more surface agitation. Could als move the powerhead so it ripples the water too if its not already at the top.

Sometimes people use vinegar on rocks to test them before adding them. I think thats for identifying calcium in them tho? so it might not apply in this cas ebut i figured i'd throw it out there anyway
