Perhaps a refugium! A small light, some good substrate, and LOTS of plants. Makes a good use of the system. I'd plumb one droping into it on one side, and a small pump sending it back, or from the refugium into the main w/d.

Don't do the convicts. They are a big pain in the butt! My aros don't eat them often, nor well. I'd go for something that is a slower swimmer, and especially bright in color.
I have a 4 inch male convict cycling the 180 right now....The p's toar into every con fry I threw in....I may set up a con breeder....Only thing bugging is how to thenoutake....The fish will be swimming through it thinking, "where the hell is that current coming from up my azz..."I might have to do a short PVC tibe on the outke and cover it with driftwood...
Ah, if you have P's I can see that being easier to have work. My aros didn't eat them, my puffer lived along side them! I can't get rid of them, except for my hydro gar that likes to eat them.
