I was meaning to say it is the same concept, they are both the same idea. As muske pointed out the instructions on the wakin filter looked crazy long which is why I posted the other design. The key idea is one place for settlement and another to catch stuff and clean easily using a blower.

Retro drains are not great, but if your stuck in a situation that means you have no alternative then it's probably the best way to go.

In that case forget the retro drain and go with a proper solvent weld bottom drain if you've got the cash fit two, a few years down the line you wished you did, I honestly don't see the point in digging the hole if your thinking about a retro drain here. yes they are expensive but later down the line you wont regret it, it's always going to be there if welded right it will never fail.

When it did my install I ignored all advise given and fitted a slide valve to save a £100, at the time it made sense, now I wished I'd installed another drain and fitted another. The cost may be huge but it will last a lifetime.

See the "If" is what has me worried! I am just worried about it leaking. Why 2 instead of 1 bottom drain? If the pond slopes to a low spot and thats where the drain is. What would be the point of 2?
