hey the secret isnt in carbon or not. If you want crystal clear water hook up a diatom filter. Don't leave it on. Just for an hour or two, it will be like looking out a window. Just go onto google images and type in diatom filter results and find out.

I don't have carbon in any of my filters. Here is a couple of examples:

very nice water :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

no really thanks for the post.

with the nitrate filter running i have cut way back on water changing.........so i figured i should add carbon to remove DOCs..........( nitrates holding at 14ppm and feeding 5 to 10 pounds of food a day)

in the mean time i wondered if the carbon effected the water clarity a lot..........i know it will take any yellow tint out eg from tannins or from a lot od dissolved organics....

:confused::confused::confused:

I use a lot of filtration with polyester media and sponges. Also, change water very often. No carbon at all.

I've never noticed a difference in any of my tanks from when I use carbon, which is why I stopped using it.

Since I like to take pictures, I need the water to be as clear as possible. Quilt batting does more than carbon for me.

(maybe I should spend a bunch of time in Photoshop painting the background to make it less amusing;))
