POLL: VERY TOUGH CHOICE(S)

I have to get rid of either a 5" Green terror or a 5" silver datnoid. They aren't getting along, and I just can't add any tanks right now (not for a long time, anyways). I've weighed the pros and cons of ditching one vs the other, and here's what I came up with.


GT: Very beautiful, has a bit more personality, easier to feed and probably easier to take care of. Green terrors are however, much easier to come by, and wayyyy cheaper. I may need to upgrade to a 75 gallon sooner with a GT.

Silver Datnoid: Another striking, beautiful fish, has a different personality, but a personality nontheless; dats should get along better with any other fish that I plan to introduce (archer, bichir. . ) and grow slow enough that I won't worry about upgrading. Dats are much rarer, at least around here, and so keeping a rare and expensive fish might be the better choice instead of keeping the common, cheaper fish.

Any thought guys? I'm not asking for people to decided for me, I already think I know what I want to do. I just want some input first, maybe some third-party perspective. Thanks for the advice!

i'd take personality over a tad bit more rare anyday. it's a silver, if it was an ST it would be another story.

Both are real pets in terms of owner responsiveness, tough call... I'd say GT just for the added colour and personality.

I would say GT, but thats just because I dont really like Dats. But GT's are beautiful, I cant wait to get a bigger tank so I can have one.

I had something similar happen, I added a IT to my tank with a AT currently in it and the AT didnt like the new guest.

So I got a rubbermaid tub w/ a spare heater, and kept the AT in there over night. I rearranged the decor and put the AT back in the tank in the morning and everything is fine now.

I dont know who is being the aggressor or if it is back and forth but you might want to try something like that, before you get rid of one.

P.S.

if you are gonna lose one, lose the GT.... Cichlids suck!!!

I have both, and GT and an IT. I must say I really like them both, but if I weren't to consider price/rarity, I'd say keep the GT. I just love their colors, their personality and the way they swim. I like how the stop all of the sudden in the middle of the tank and appear to be "hovering" with all of their fins. Just cause its cheap and available everywhere doesn't mean its a bad fish

Just think of the Dorsal fin, you cant beat the rip saw on the Dats it is sooo cool and scares people lol
