I could never understand bichirs growth spurt either but according to Serg his theory is that bichir moving to new tank promote grow. I am still not convinced. Awhile back Serg sold me an ornate which I kept for 5 months then when he got back into the hobby I sold it back to him at the same size I got it from him. Within 6 weeks it grew 2-3"!!!

actually i think its true my 9" endli i put into my 150 and in 2-3 weeks it grew too 12" it gain alot of girth too

I've always heard how fish release hormones that keeps their own growth and others in check. The larger one will release more to keep the others from growing. Since the Ornate was the bigger...it probably released more hormones keeping the others down. Now that he's out of the tank, it give someone else to be "Top Dog"
