Poly care / growth

I have never fed my bichirs beef hearts. but I heard it makes them explode in size. Beef hearts are fatty so remove as much fat as possible first. Limit these feeding or you'll end up with very obese bichirs.

Beef heards are only best when you want to make tiny baby bichirs grow. There is no point in feeding those to adult bichirs. No perfectly sure how much you could feed it per month.

I would say 3 times a week with other fishy foods and pellets.

Yup removed all of the fat already. Just muscle. Yum! Ive tried feeding once and the bichirs loved it. I think I read somewhere that twice a month is the max but that didnt specify the size of the fish. You think 3x a week would be good?

i have never fed it to my bichirs before. I think bichirs are best fed aquatic based foods such as fish. maybe limit the feeding of beef hearts for now to see how the bichirs do. Once a week for now.

Let the others chime in.

i think that once you are done growing the them out it should be fed once or twice every couple months at the most. The reason is because they can't digest mammalian foods as well as aquatic foods so over time all the minerals that weren't/couldn't be digested start to build up and cause other problems like blockages. IMO though its something that should be used as a treat, grow-out, or (what i use/used it for) if a poly won't eat feed it that. So if your poly is on a hunger strike and you're starting to push the month+ mark then i'd feed beefheart and then the poly will start to like that (at least mine did). Then start stuffing the beefheart with the pellets or whatever you are wanting it to start eating. Then when they start to except that try and rub the beefheart (so when they taste it it tasted like beefheart) on the pellets (or whatever you want to feed it) so they start to except them. May not work for you, but it definitely worked for me.

Thanks for the advice guys. Dr B, how often do you think I shoild feed my younger polys? All of them grew around an inch since last week (Now I know why they say you see their growth in spurts lol) and are around 4-5". Should I feed once a week? Or once a month?
