SO i have heard a lot of good about poly filters, and how clean your water is after using... How often do you guys replace it? i did not think it could be re-charged but i just read this - pads can be regenerated by simple rinsing in saltwater (saltwater use can be regenerated by the reverse, rinsing in freshwater).

any comments?

There are also PURA Filtration Pads.

If you believe some of the hype, several layers of this stuff and you don't need anything else...

Yet notice that they add these to the filter not 'instead of' your old filter.

They may have their place under special circumstances (quarantine, breeding and fry tanks), but should not be used to extend maintenance schedules.

I too would like to hear what members have found about regeneration cycles and what their flow rates / bio-loads are.

i know that T1 and other stingray guys like Brent use this stuff and say that is makes there water very clear and it also makes there fish feed better..etc.

i just bought some to try it and was just curius on how long 1 pc works and if you can recharge it.

i have never regenerated the thing. i use 2 pieces for my 180g, and last about 1 month or so, it turns dark brown and then you know it is time to replace

so do you still use filter floss first or replace my filter floss with this?

is says pads can be regenerated by simple rinsing in saltwater (saltwater use can be regenerated by the reverse, rinsing in freshwater).

and if you can regen it for as much as it costs that woudl be great.

I didn't know you could regenerate it..... I really don't think you can.

It's great stuff, but much too expensive when one thinks it can't do anything that a water change can't do. It's great for remove colors and medications. Works well for shipping too.

I AM NOT SURE...THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING, I THOUGHT I SAW WHERE YOU CANNOT BUT I READ THIS HERE

General Maintenance Comments:
  • Poly Filter needs no other chemicals, resins, carbon, or other additives in fresh or marine systems to aid in filtration.
  • Poly Filter turns color as it absorbs harmful organics - progressing from White to Green to Brown and then to Black.
  • Poly Filter adds nothing to the water as it is an absorbent.
  • Poly Filter can be cut to any size or shape and can also be rolled into a cylindrical (tube) configuration to custom fit any filter.
  • Poly Filter turns color when removing medications (Blue with copper, Red with iron, Green with ammonia, etc.).
  • Poly Filter extends the time between water changes. If pH shifts below acceptable levels, change the water and add a new Poly Filter.
  • Water conditioners can interfere with the Poly Filter's performance. If the Poly Filter is not functioning in marine water, remove it and rinse with freshwater. If the Poly Filter is freshwater, remove it and rinse with saltwater.
NOTE: Poly Filter will not soften water or remove trace minerals.
