Picked this guy up a while ago and totally forgotten what he is, I'm sure I bought him as a Senegal lol

Not really seen him in a while thought he was dead but re arranged to make less hiding spots and he is around now just looking a little thin

Tried the I'd sticky but it looks like most of them to my untrained eye lol
 
Oh man you picked a tough one to ID. I'm going to guess either retropinnis or one of the 3 subspecies of palmas. I have had trouble differentiating between these 4 possibilities in the past since they have a lot of overlapping meristic characteristics (e.g. number of dorsal spines). fishbase.org is probably the most useful site for determining which it is though.

But I can say it's definitely NOT a teugelsi or ornatipinnis (ornate).
 
Kinda big difference between the palmas species by looking on pattern. This guy is 100% polli looking at pattern, head shape and finlet count.

It looks closer to retropinnis or palmas

I also thought it looked like mokelembembe or weeksii though lol

It's defiantly not ornate I've had them before and the teugelsi looks elongated in the I'd photo and mine isn't
