Is any fish smart? What would be the smartest fish?

Fish are not very smart compared to mammals or birds. But some are smarter than others, for example some Cichlids and Mormyrus Sp.

I'll be the minority to argue that their intelligence is fairly high for fish. I had a ropefish that recognized a particular angelfish in his tank that always nipped at his pectoral fins when he swam by. After a couple of days, whenever he swam by that particular angel, he kept whichever fin was on that side tucked in tight to his body. He didn't do it for any other fish. I also disagree that they are "blind" as everyone likes to say. They may hunt mainly by smell, but their eyes work perfectly fine, especially for close range.

Nah bichirs are pretty dumb for the most part. For me it was a little frustrating keeping them in community tanks because it was a real struggle for some of them to get food. Like food would be 2 inches away from them and they couldnt find it in time and another fish would eat it. I think endlis are a little smarter though bc all the ones I've had would react right away when I dropped food into the tank. Others though would either take too long to find the food or make me put the food right next to their heads.

I used to think bichirs were dumb until my pbb and congicus proved me wrong. My pbb learned to eat floating pellets. That was an awesome site. They aren't as dumb as I think they are. They just bad hunters when it comes to finding food.

Id like to think they are like any animal, including humans. Some are smart, some are marginal and some are lucky to have enough IQ to breath.
