Poly twitching

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine does this now and then when she has a shrimp to big for her mouth and chokes, then chews it a bit better (I do cut all of her food to size, sometimes to big I guess or she swollows wrong) but I have seen her run into stuff as well, I know she can see as she stalks me when I go into the room, she is just a bad swimmer :P 4 wheel drive is NOT 4 wheel breaking as my brother likes to say

This fish can be swimming in dead center of tank with no food in sight and away the spazms go. I think its a brain problem.
I would guess that fish can have them, but wouldn't know from experience. I have had blind fish and stuff, but not spasm fish. I would guess check your water, check for current/electricity, and maybe toxins and things, other then that, remove sharp stuff, and enjoy your handicapped fish.

For the past 2 days the fish has been hanging out at the surface and just kinda floating around. It still has the seizure like actions.

No idea what to tell you mate. Mine hangs about the top for a few days then the bottom, then a rock, and so on, but has never had seizures. My next best guess would be to phone a good fish shop or even a vet - the vet won't see the fish most likely, but may be able to offer some good advice. You could always do the "Ask the Expert" at PFK as well, one of the guys there keeps polys.

Sorry I can't be more help. Those are the things I would try next though if I were you :)

could give Flubenol-15 a go, I'm useing it on my panda cory that I suspect has parasites.

Are you sure he isn't just being scared? Every time I come up to the tank or turn on the lights, my sen flips out and runs into the walls, but calms down after I'm there for a sec. Try watching from where the fish can't see you and see if it still does it.

i also have a senegal that I believe has brain problems, or just a few fries short a happy meal you know? It has been seen twitching 2 times (once for a few days, the other time just a few times in one day. This sen though eats more than any of them, like uncomfortable to look at after bloated an lumpy, floaty and still looking for more, eating poop and whatever isn't too big. I think when mine was twitching and acting erratic it had eaten gravel and was not comfortable and working it out. This fish though always looks for food and generally doesn't fit in with the rest, hyperactive, chews algae discs, rocks.... never saw a sen like it. Anyways, could be a winky like mine but maybe to greater level. This sen has a good ending though, had it for a couple years and still the most active, and the only one who will go to the top for food and take it from your hand (glutton). (sorry to hear about the passing RIP) Has it always been like this? if not how long?
