yes, just look how similar snakeheads and bowfins look. But they are not related in any way.

I would love to know more about south american polys. Unfortunately just a few fossils were found. My hope would be, that those still exist in latin america. Just look into the pantanal area. its a huge area and perfect bichir habitat but still mostly undiscovered.

Evolution seems to follow very similar paths in some circumstances. I thought that I read that the Knife Fishes in Africa and South America evolved separately.

Do some reading on convergent evolution, it's an incredibly interesting subject. As I said before the example of the 2 and 3 toed sloths are perfect examples of this. Each evolved from separate lines, however, they've each evolved in similar directions over time.

I'll read on it, but I....am...very...slow...and...lazy...when...it comes to sloths. I'll hit you back in 2014.
