Is it possible to lessen the focus difference between the closest and the farthest parts of the fish with a camera?

I mean human eye has an "infinite" focus they say but I wonder if it is an illusion, that is if we instantly change focus as we scan a fish from front to back and that the camera is just like the human eye except we see only a snipet of a "video" in time.
 
Yes the depth of field(dof) can be thick or thin, based on several factors such as, the focal length selected, the aperture selected, the distance between the subject and the lens.

If the dof is thick, the front and the back of the fish is in focus, if the DOF is thin, then only a portion is in focus and the rest blurs out.

Actually as you keep increasing the distance the DOF increases, and the DOF of the human eye is much much thicker than the artificial lenses, our DOF reduces as we bring things extremely close to our eyes
