I really doubt these captive breed ansorgiis will make 20". I'm thinking they'll end up being around 16-18" mark.

After 12" they slow down-slower than Senegals.

That's probably why the old literature thought they only max out 11" as they hardy grow at that size. Until WC specimen were caught at much longer length.

they tend to be slow relative to how big they can get, but not too bad with any luck . e.g. i grew my 18" from ~9" and my 20" from 16".

i think that has more to do with the fact that before ansorgii started to get imported, the only specimens they had for reference were something like 3 museum specimens which were all small, so they really had no good data to show how big the species gets.

my WC ansorgii is about 15"... he's my biggest/longest bichir at this moment... and i have one at 8" i believe its CB...

Why does the skull structure of a WC and CB ansorgii look so different? If you take a look at the ones from Japan, their head looks similar to that of a PBB. On the other hand, the head of their CB counterpart has a head that looks like some endlicheri or something.

we rarely see these in the uk - nice fish you all have
