A fish is only worth what you're willing to pay for. Assume that you can afford it, will the same amount buy you something else that makes you happier over a longer period than that fish or is the fish something that you would enjoy longer. I wouldn't bank on investing on the fish so that it will be worth something to sell later. That plan for me always backfires. Think of it as a source of enjoyment. If it makes you happy, then buy it.

Put it this way, youre paying $500 for a fish that only one person in the US has (for now at least). Meanwhile, people pay $1000+ for arowanas that everyone has.
