Today my polypterus Senegalis were courting, and after a cold water change they have been spawning. SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

They are one albeno, one regular. Unfortunatly the jag has been following them around and eating most of the eggs, but a bit later tonight after they have finished spawning I am going to remove the moss and hopefully there will still be some eggs that I can hatch.

Any advice on what else I need to do?

Here is the happy couple

Ok, they have stopped spawning now, and I have moved the moss to another tank.
Here's a bad photo:

Does any one have any advice on what temperature I should make the tank, and what should I do to feed them when they hatch?

Any pics of the eggs? Ur so lucky since bichirs are so pricy in Austrialia/new zealand I believe?

I don't have a camera that is any good at doing close ups, this is the best I can get.

They are expensive in ausi, as I believe they can't be imported there. Over in NZ senegals are about $30, delz are $80, palmas palmas are about $130 and ornates $100. That is all we can get. (all prices in NZ dollars. nz$1 ~= $0.80 american)

The normal one is about 20cm, I bought it at that size. The albino is about 10-15cm. I grew it out from ~5cm.

Now the hard part, getting the eggs to hatch and grow into fish that I can sell.
(breeding them was just luck)

i never had bichir eggs but in general when u pull out the eggs u might wanna add some metronidazole to prevent fungus and keep the eggs well airated and some decent flow of water. For the temp i guess the best thing is to keep them in the same water the parents spawned in so same temp as the parents tank. GL with the babies
