polys are know to surivive quite awhile out of water, remember they can breath air.

did you even try to toss him back in and see if he came back to life?

ive heard stories of this happening
i had a rope fish (reedfish ) that jumped out he was as dry as cardboard when i found him i put him back in and about 8-10 hours latter he came around
i pushed him up and down by the power head to force oxygen into him and it worked
.sadly a week latter he got out again and i was to late

Sorry about your loss. :( Although not applicable to your ray pool, I seal up all of the holes in my tanks with clear packing tape to prevent any polypterid escape attempts.

yea about a month ago I had my 8" ornate in a 20 long WITH a glass top on it. CAme down the next day and he was on the ground all freid up.
