Polypterus combo

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it really depends on the dimensions of the 125 but i'd say 7-8 if you leave off the weeksii and teugelsi since they both get past 20"+ (however weeksii take forever to grow)

I know to go for more footprint then for taller tanks for bichirs, not a complete newbie lol. got a senegal and grew it out to full size then sold it and got an ornate. been keeping em for a while now, but I am just getting started with these less common specie.

TBH lol i think trying to breed weeksii is almost a lost cause (not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely just cause it takes a while for them to mature etc...,) it depends on which one but yeah i think you could add more like 2. I'm starting to think that you actually have a 75. What is the height on your tank?

28 in. This guy used to breed sens, then ornates (where I got mine from), and now he's trying it out w/ weeksii. They are both 16 inches give or take a couplem, so I guess time will tell as far as that project goes, I may have to upgrade my heater lol I leave a good 4 inches cleared at the top so they can comfortably breath (and not manage to crawl right out lol). My filter could handle 75 fine if it is that, but idk about my 150 wa. Fluval heater. I do have an air pump (even though all that's in there right now is a red wolf fish (6 in) and the ornate (7 in) I figured it would help circulation and water quality.

Nice, I'm glad I figured this out gonna go exchange my heater, the guy was pretty convinced it was a 55 to 65 and so were me and my friend that picked it up. Will most definitely measure and get exact dimensions before I buy equipment lol lesson learned. My filter will be fine with it so no worries there.
Do you think this is good to use for the ornate breeding project or would I need something larger?

idk it really depends on the ornates we actually had someone on here that bred his ornates in a 30g it was pretty amazing, but IMO it depends on the poly. It seems like i'd be a pretty good size tank though, but i'm sure since i really haven't looked into breeding them. Also you need a lot of time and resources to breed them. heres the thread of him documenting his breeding process (just to let you get a feel of what work and time is needed) http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?523920-Breeding-Ornates
