Hi all, well im getting ready to dive back into polyterus again. Im looking at getting Polypterus congicus. Can any of you that have personal exp with these guys give me some pointers. Like how fast they grow, how big do they get in captivity, feeding wild cought and so on and so on. I like personal exp over articals and care sheets wich ive went threw the stickys already. I will be housing a 12"er with 2 dats. Ill be upgrading tanks but he will be in a 90 gal for now. in a few weeks ill be getting a 300gal tank. then a 600gal tank shortly after.

The largest one i have heard of is 39" but that was most likely wild caught. (mostly they all are) I have not had one before but have researched enough to have some what good info. So I would plan on a 30-32" fish (just for rounding numbers incase you want to be careful with stocking size) The growth is depending on the conditions the better the conditions the faster and bigger they grow and the healthier they are. Feeding can vary i still am growing out my smaller polys so i would want some one else to tell you feeding than me trying to guess but search around in the polypterus section there are great threads for feeding. I am still trying to find the poly diet that i love. Good luck :)

Largest Congicus I've heard is 42".

close enough lol but either way they are the biggest species and can exceed expectations lol and where did you hear that i want to check it out lol :)

I'm am 99.9% positive that even though we have only seen these sizes that there are a bit bigger ones in the wild thats my opinion

Anything is possible, but it's highly unlikely you will find a WC bigger than stated.

As for the OP's fish, You are also unlikely to see a 30" Congicus in home aquaria, unless imported that size or near a bouts.
24-26" isnt difficult though.
