Okay, I know a lot of Polypterus MFKers out there have wondered does substrate type and color really make a noticeable difference? So I decided to created a thread that compares all of the common bichir substrates and shows, if any, the differences between them.
So i will start with PFS (pool filter sand) and CGS (Crushed Garnet Sand):
Today 10/18/12 I removed my Polypterus lapradei and my Polypterus ansorgii from my 300 gallon that contains PFS as a substrate and re-homed them in my 250 gallon that contains CGS as a substrate.
Here are some pictures; they look just like this in my 300 with PFS:
DAY 1
I will provide updates every two days to show progress.
Now obviously i do not have the resources necessary to carry this out with all the common substrates, so I leave the door open to you guys and gals to help me out on this. This way we can have a somewhat clear understanding on how substrate affects the contrast of our beloved Polypterus.
