So right now I have a temporary 40 breeder housing my 5-6 Senegal Bichir and a couple 2-3 inch CA/SA cichlids. I’m rehomeing the cichlids this weekend and I’m keeping my Senegal bichir. I also ordered a Delhezi Bichir that is about 3-3.5 inches that is coming tomorrow. While he is in the tank with the larger Bichir and the cichlids. Should I worry about him getting beat up or killed? The Bichir would be a permanent tankmate but like I said the cichlids are being rehome the following weekend.

It’s mixed replies for cichlids but at those sizes it should be safe. There maybe some aggression from the established bichir. Some nipping and snapping. I’d keep an eye out.

Well they can be nasty bastards. Especially the jd. They leave the sen alone ? Whos been in the tank the longest ? Who's the most dominate?

Yeah they have always left the Senegal alone. I bought them all around the same time but the bp is the most dominant and then it’s JD, firemouth, and female convict last. The only fish I have had hurt my Senegal was my old 7 inch blood parrot that I got rid of because she would bite the crap out of him. He still has scars.

Theres a good chance nothing happens and the leave the new del alone. But if this were me i would remove the cichlids for a couple of hrs. Doesnt have to be fancy throw em in a bucket. Rearrange the tank a bit to kind of disorient the group. Ive never found this to work out long term (dominate fish and territories re establish) but it may give you time since the fish are being rehomed in a day or two any way.

Dont wanna freak you out again good chances they ignore the new guy. But they could also view it as an invader on their territory since its new and the sen had been there for a while.

Ive added bichirs to established tanks and all went well. Other times it was a nightmare, the fish got attacked immediately. I once sold a 10 inch lap to an lfs they dropped it in a tank consisting of little jds... they were on it like white on rice. Fish had to be removed almost instantly
