Hey I have a 125 gal tank with 2 green terrors and one 12 inch common pleco. My question is could I add 2 Polypterus ornatipinnis at 4 inches (which are very rare in my area) to my current stock or will I have to move my pleco to one of my other tanks. Has anyone had success keeping a similar stock.

Plecos usually don't work out with polys. Once they get the taste for slime coat it's all over.
In the long run I wouldn't suggest it.

Ya thats what I hear, just hoping to hear otherwise lol I guess I can grow them out in my empty 30 gal for the time being. My pleco has such great personality it would be hard for him to adapt to another tank. thanks for your reply.

Yep that 12 incher would devastate a small bichir if it decided it wanted its slime coat.. I'd sell the pleco to make room for bichirs

A small pleco can do huge damage to a large bichir let alone a huge pleco with 2 small bichirs.

plecos are not a good idea with bichirs. I would never risk it. Common plecos are the worst in sucking the slime coat.

So if I remove the pleco, the bichir's would be fine with the green terrors? The pair of gt's aren't aggressive at all only towards each other at there time of the month (male 8" female 5") at the moment the plec is king of the tank.

Ive seen them in tanks together w/o issue, is it a breeding pair? Idk about gts but i know some cichlids get really nasty at that time

Ya there a breeding pair but they are wimps I had a 3" firemouth in with them and the fm beat the hell out of both of them, same with my jd"s. Their not terrors at all.

I think you should grow out the ornates in the 30 gal or some other tank and when they are big enough switch them and the pleco. IMO I just wouldn't want something small and worm looking in the same tank as a pair of GTs especially almost 2 time their size. I think you should grow them out first just to be safe. With good feeding and water changes it shouldn't take long for you to grow some ornates out
