Actually....thetropicaltank.com.uk notwithstanding....the fish that is typically sold as the 'dinosaur eel' is Polypterus senegalus.
Wildfishman05......if you read above....it WAS noted that there are three subspecies. There may actually be a fourth if Frank Schafer (Aqualog Polypterus book) is correct in designating Polypterus sp. 'Gold Dust' as a valid species. In that book, Schafer elevates the three subspecies of Polypterus palmas to species level, a taxonomic move that I will not agree with until I see more valid data to support the elevation.
