Long story short my research into Polypterids keeps me outta trouble mostly lol-Anne
 
Bichirs are bimodal in respiratory function--they have both gills and well vascularized lungs--and can survive using either.


I have to correct this sentence:

A Bichir without the possibility to reach the surface and breathing athmospherical air will drown.

Using Polypterus senegalus it was found if the water has a dissolved oxygen content greater than 3.5 dissolved oxygen content they relied solely on gill respiration-Anne
