Hey guys, do you have any information about the collection point of the Senegalus? Im doing a Congo basin biotope and i would like to add him to my fauna list. My biotope location is around kwamouth (the area where the Kwa river merges to the Congo river). The nearest Senegalus collection point that i saw is at Oubangi river and somewhere in Central africa :irked:. So yeah... HELP!:D Thanks in advance! :naughty:

98% of the sen's collection point is in a breeding farm in Asia. lol

LOL  yeah, majority of the Senegals for sale are all CB. I went around le internetz and majority of them are being caught in Ghana and the only Senegal found in the Congo is the Meridionalis.

Proof of what? the Meridionalis? its a misidentified species or its some what similar to the Senegalus being caught in lake turkana. As for what i said about the Senegalus in Ghana, you can check the Ichthyology database of some museums and you'll see it there :)

oops misread your post. I thought you said that the majority of the sens are caught in Congo and Ghana.

If i were you i would find some one who sells WC sens ask them who their supplier is (or just find a WC sen supplier) and ask them If I were you though I would get some congo tetras and (are you interested wanting the WC sens or are you just trying to make a biotope with CBs?) a senegalus or 2

It doesn't really matter if they're WC or CB aslong as they are healthy, i'll be adding some other bichirs that are endemic to the area as well so having congo tetras inside that tank with them will be a waste :D so ill go withCtenopoma acitirostre as the mid dweller. I just want to add senegals because i want to get some of those nice lookin long finned ones

Bump!

I'm 1 month away from my build and still i can't find any solid information, went though museum database, browsed around websites, asked a couple of people still i cant find anything.

Good luck with congo tetras. The only ones I could find in my area were $5/ea and tiny. After a couple got eaten I tried to keep them in an intank refugium to grow out and either they were escaping or my Senegal was getting in there at night and eating them. It was a $40 snack for her lol. My local zoo has a huge tank full of them and they are gorgeous once they develop their colors :( I have a cteno with her now and they get along great. They make a cool pair!
