Just wanted to make a thread to share my platinum senegals and their growth (mainly the female) so far. I picked up 2 platinum senegals (male and female) on
January 20, 2021. They were about 5"-5.5"

July 2021, you can see the female much bigger than albino sens by then.

I wonder how long it'll take the female to hit 12"+. The male might only squeeze out another 1"-2" but we will see. It doesn't eat as much as the female does.

Seeing how pretty your platinums are make me wish I had some where I live ! They look really healthy.

Oh hard to come by is an under-statement. The only Bichirs I have access to are Senegals Endlis and Delhezi. All captive bred. I always wanted a Mokele or other WC upper jaw species but impossible to get. Wish fish stores had Worldwide shipping .
My LFS regularly has these.

Lucky. Mine has lots of cichlids and other fish but rarely monsters. Saw a Hujeta Gar and True Gars but they get too big for a 65.
I don’t like color morphs/physical morphs, and personally I would rather have the real thing than an albino, or short bodied, or platinum, because although they are pretty and everything, they aren’t natural. The chance of an Albino Senegal Bichir in the wild is very very low. The chance of a short bodied, or deformed fish is beyond rare. Tbh, although Color Morphs may have a foreign factor, and be rare, you can’t get much better than the real, original thing.

Honestly , same. I love natural colours alot more but Albino is an exception. Personally like Albinos more than Plats. But I doubt I could keep a normal Senegal Bichir in my 40B.
