Polypterus + Severum... A little update.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice! I've never had Severums, but I've always liked their colors.

The lap is really starting to color up, good to see! I can't believe how fast those sens are growing, they're almost caught up lol

Beautiful fish all around Stump :)

Yeah, she appears to be settled... I feel better about it now.

Those sens are crazy, huh? :D

They grew faster than I imagined they would, and I was expecting some fast growth... The picture of the Lap with the Sen right below it seemed like the perfect opportunity to show the size difference. Needless to say, it's not quite what it was when the Lap was first introduced.

The Sens like to cram themselves together next to the big rock (as you can see in the pics), apparently, they don't realize they've grown. They could all pile up in that little hole a few weeks ago, now they try and they end up scraping themselves against the rocks... :grinno:

Thanks Serg... Really appreciate it.

At this size her growth is already starting to slow, I think you'll be okay with that idea you were kicking around about a half full tank with larger foot print. Then you could add archers to that kind of tank, and some branches out of the water, would look ill!

Yeah I noticed the sens still trying to squeeze together in there lol

wow stump looking awesome! the lap looks great in your tank and the sens are getting THICK! do they hand feed?

Thanks... I've only tried handfeeding once, and my biggest sen (the one that has a small brown spot on it's side) grabbed a worm right out of my hand... I was convinced after that. I don't try it a lot... I don't like having to dry my arm off after. lol

They really have put on some size... at around 6" they started to slow down growing length-wise and started to bulk up. The high protein diet i've been giving them seems to be working well.

Growth Pellets, Cichlid Pellets, Shrimp Pellets -- All from Kensfish -- Earthworms/nightcrawlers and some frozen jumbo shrimp (I just thaw, peel, and chop it). My Lap only seems interested in the shrimp. The worms only once in a while.

She's still pretty picky.

haha cool! ya i have a little towel by all of my tanks (more for our carpet than for me!)
