thanks everyone!! glad you like them :)
davo, thats very cool...wish i could see the show...

Those birds eye pix are awesome. Do you have any advice on how to get them that clearly?

thanks KOTR!
I notice it doesn't work too well on a tall tank unless you have a lot of light. I couldn't get clear shots of the ones in my 30" tall tank. the ones here are in a shorter tank, about 22". I recommend doing this during water change. lower the water to 1/2, remove the tank lid, turn on the tank lights and you're set to go.

oh you can also have the room lights on to increase the lighting. Normally this is a big no no since you will get reflection off the glass when you leave the room lights on, but since i'm not shooting thru a glass with these dorsal views, it doesn't seem to be a problem. Also, my room light is almost directly above the tank so it works real well. In short, it's all about having enough lights.

you can also just use flash. if you angle it just right you can get the reflection to not appear in the shot or just far away enough so you can crop it out.

yeah that would take care of the reflection, although sometimes camera flash can wash out the color...even if it doesn't, it depends on what you wanna do. if you look at the corner of one of the pics, you can see a bright spot, which is the aquarium light, so i can't have a bright light source directly on top of the fish i'm shooting. If i were to use flash, i would have to angle the camera to avoid reflection like you said, meaning i wouldn't be able to get the straight-down view i'm after.

you can still get a nice top view even if the camera is slightly angled. you just gotta experiment with i guess.

thats pretty good is300zx. did you use a lower flash setting or something?

yes i think so, the water is pretty shallow also so didn't need to use too much flash.
