Polypterus with red scratch like marks along his scales. worried.

Hey guys,

So i went away for a 3 week vacation to Asia and i just came back today and saw my poly with red markings along his scales. Im thinking its the ammonia because i lifted up the blue tiles and uncovered MASSIVE amounts of poop that got stuck there that would have otherwise been sucked up into my filters. Does anyone have any experience or want to chime in? I just did a slight feeding and hes still eating the pellets.

Do you have a water test kit? Test and post your findings.

Then begin water change routine to bring those numbers down. If it starts to clear keep up with the water changes, continue until you get acceptable test readings. Then keep up a regular routine. If it continues to look bad despite water changes then you may want to do a methylene blue bath treatment for a week or so.

I dont have a test kit anymore, but I just completed a 40% water change and am gonna see if he heals up within the next few days. Thanks

Nothing in my tank except the edges of my blue tiles but those are not really sharp. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks

I don't think it's ammonia due to the sludge under your tiles. the reason is the eyes and fins would show signs first. looks to be a bruise/injury. watch it closely w/frequent water changes and salt for improvement.

No idea I had a congicus. I thought that was an Endli. I have one ornate, one endli and one congicus then. Heres a video of the tank currently

Looks like an endli to me. I'd pick up atleat the ammonia and nitrate test solutions. Btw it doesnt matter where the sludge or gunk is. In the tank or in the filters still would impact water quality at some point
