Watch out guys....

Ill whip out the ruler when I can catch the thing! He is a silent assassin! But I assure you its just as big as I say it is! My payara is almost six inches and he is easy to measure cause he swims next to the glass, and when my ornate swims under him he looks the same size! Ill show y'all!

Furious fish, I'm actually growing out Delhezi, senegal and ornate. I have 3 bichirs all growing really fast. I have had them for exactly 2 weeks today and my ornates already put on just under an inch. the delhezi and senegal have put on an inch and a bit already!

Lol the lowest odds would be probass he's looked ruff and tiny! I need measure mine he seems to me growing quick! Eating my cherry barbs too :p (got them as a ranndom trade and he is eating them) Rafini you are fairly new but not sure how new to fishkeeping feeders are EXTREMELY BAD and so are frozen blood worms. Both the staple foods you are feeding him have next to no nutrients....

My note on the matter is, instead of giving all bad news on what he's feeding his fish, why isn't there any suggestions on better food to back up the statement :)

Actually I just said I feed them 4 times a day with shrimp pellets designed for predatory and or bottom dwelling fish. The feeders and the bloodworms are treats. Also feeding them feeders isn't bad for a piscovourous species like Bichirs. I find it hard to believe that Bichirs in the wild eat pellets. they hunt fish and shrimps 2 of which they get from me on a regular basis. Feeders and Bloodworms can be bad in high amounts or to non predatory fish such as cichlids but Right now I couldn't be feeding my bichirs a better diet than what they already have. I also feed them Hikari gold pellets that they will take from the surface.

Somewhere along the line there seems to have been a miscommunication about what I feed them, I can assure you all I am not new to fish keeping and I want to give my fish the best diets I can. after all they are in a predator grow out tank.

Gave my bichirs a waterchange earlier and cleaned out their filter so should continue getting the good growth rate I have from them! Also found out where a lot of my foods been going, Today a HUGE big fat Irwini catfish swam out from his cave, this guy has pretty much doubled in size since I got him 2 weeks ago.

hydranocide, How does your vampire tetra get onwith the bichirs? I am interested in those fish and wondered how well they get on with fish like bichirs. a pic wouldnt hurt too ;)

To Rafini,
Well as far as getting along is going, its fine so far. But I have a scomb species vampire and they stay fairly calm till older age. I'm not sure about how an armatus or a tat vampire would behave around any of my fish. All my fish behave really good except my tigerish. My bichir usually just relaxes in a big piece of wood I have that has a series of caves inside it. I usually only see him when its feeding time or when he is on the hunt. Other than that he's a mystery. My payara is a gental beast most of the time but he does tank the occasional stab at my vittatus tigerish. My tigerish runs the tank and headbuts almost all of my fish. He don't bite them but does have a territorial problem. As for the bichir, none of the fish I have do anything but get out of his way. And the little guys puts down some big food items, so to be honest I'm worried more about my payara then my bichir lol!

And ill try to get a picture of my bichir and scomb together

I disagree that you are giving them the best possible diet, shrimp pellets are usually junk, goldfish are unhealthy long term(and risk parasite introduction) blood worms are candy for fish, and hikari gold, while being the best food that you have mentioned, it is a floating food and still not the most nutritious. I still would recommend Nls, can be fed exclusively or with a varied diet of tilapia, earth worms, and other meaty foods.

Pro bass fisher You should mind your own business, I'm sure there are hundreds of bichir keepers on this site that feed diets worse than mine.

1.Shrimp pellets contain let me see 30% protein and only 3% fat doesn't sound all that bad to me.

2. I don't feed golfish they are quarantined Minnows

3. The bloodworms are mainly for my dat when he won't eat anything else. which is also why there are feeders in the tank.

4. Doesn't matter what you recommend because I can't get NLS or Massivore at my LFS, I have to travel an hour north to get them, and I don't drive so until I can get a ride up there I make do with what I have.

5. Earthworms are hard to find in my garden, so far I've found one.

6. other meaty foods? you mean like blood worms, shrimp pellets and FISH? you even recommended Tilapia yet you have a problem with me feeding minnows to them...

I kept my first bichir 6 years ago I know what they should and shouldn't eat. I may have few posts but I'm not some noob new to fishkeeping. So in light of your previous comments I would respond that I give my fish a healthy balanced diet of which he would encounter in the wild, no fatty goldfish or beefheart or anything BAD for the fish. regardless the fact that they have grown an inch in 2 weeks says that they are happy and healthy in good conditions.

although your responce is related to the contest can we please refrain from derailing to standard information on bichirs please

Hydro, your tank sounds amazing do you have any picture threads you could link me to?
