Poly's for a 75g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well online theres numerous places such as wetspot, aquatic daycare, rehoboth aquatics, and I know AHA was recently started and it seems like it's going to be a very successfully run business with some bichirs involved as they already have a pretty good list of them to choose from at the moment.

What is AHA?

get as many it takes to cover the floor of your 75g then watch in awe at the awesome bichir carpet lol hahaha

Looking at getting 1 x 3" ornate, 1 x 3" senegal, 1 x 3" albino sengal..There will be 3" oscar in the tank at this time as well. Would Thorichthys maculipinnis go ok here? They'll be 1.5" on arrival if purchased, but she could use her 20g to grow them out a bit if needed.

That should work, but in the future the ornate may need a larger tank so you might want to take that into consideration.

Not for a year to 16 months, depending on diet. I bought my ornates on Halloween of this year at 4.5-5" and they are now at the 7-8" mark. They grow very quickly--as much as 2" per month until they hit 10". I would say you ought to migrate them at about that point, but could wait a bit longer. They are very shy as far as polypterids go. One of mine is thoroughly convinced I am going to eat her. The slightly larger male is less skittish, bit still prefers that I keep my distance. I have seen it mentioned that this clears up a bit as they approach adulthood. Throw a delhezi in the mix! They look great, and will constantly be swimming. I have 4 in a grow out tank with an endli right now and can't wait to add them to the 180 poly community.

That's pretty quick. Not sure how much I really want to put polys in my 125g that fast.. thought it might be more over a 2-3 year span. I'll have to talk to her about it then, and possibly look at something else. She's really only interested in the patterned ones.
