how big do they get? Are they single specimen fish or a shoaling fish? Would you do alright as a single specimen fish?

Jacks are schooling fish, and will not get aggressive toward eachother. They will also do fine as a single specimen. These fish get VERY BIG, 30lbs plus. Here in Hawaii some species of jacks grow to be over 100LBS.

ya those jacks are sweet, i have one he is 2" now and they like a little salt in the water and a little bit of top water current. mine does anyway
