Pond Build

Nothing too fancy yet, just a hole in the ground and some dirt piles, but its coming. They started digging yesterday. Hopefully it'll be complete and ready for fish within a couple of weeks.

Finished product should be 6'w x 15'L x3-4'D - should hold my catfish nicely for quite awhile.

Nice! Are you going to have it planted? Using a bog filter? Or just lots of expensive mechanicals ? Can't wait to see the progress!

The plan is to have a waterfall in the back corner by the house. There will be bolders and steps in the water to hold plants as well a couple of boulders in the middle to hold more plants...plus more plants around it. Not necessarily planted, but plants in the pond for sure.

I'm not sure on the filter. The landscaper is doing everything. I've expressed the fish will be large catfish and it will need to be big enough to hold filter media for them. He is working with a pond company on the filters, so hopefully all goes well. He said if it didn't work out, things can be switched. Hopefully all goes well. It will also be on a drip, to change out water.

My only concern at the moment is heat for in the winter. I'm hoping a couple of large titanium heaters will do the trick though. I should be fine in the summer, it gets warm, but the pond will almost always be in the shade

Haha, I've been taking photos of the process every day, but haven't had a chance to upload them. I'll try to get on that within the next couple of days.

So...we're getting there. I wasn't really expecting all the rocks. It makes it a bit narrower than I had hoped. It still opens up near the top, so the cats should have room to turn when they get big. They were hoping to be done yesterday, but no dice. They still need to finish up the wall, foam the rocks in, finish up the electric, etc, but its coming along nicely.
