Has anyone ever tried one of these on there fish tank, they seem a cheaper alternative to the FX5 etc and say they filter more.

I was thinking of using one on my 300g as the wet/dry does not filter out all the small particles no matter what I try and do.
I have used a jebo pond filter and it works well. You can save a little with these over fx5 after buying the pump .And having the pup internaly is quieter .I"ll tell you one thing after i bought the jebo i found out Laguna pond equipment is made by hegan Who makes the fx5.There pond equipment i bet is even better. But with the pond canister you get tons more bio!!

ok then, what is the difference between an aquarium cannester and a pond cannester.
the answer is nothing, pand cannesters usually have a higher flow rate and most have a uv light

interesting

If you search for "bio force 2000" on this site you will find many places where I have extensively described my very positive experience using this pond filter on in home aquariums.

Since UV on pond filters were mentioned... do be aware that the low wattage and high flow rate will do nothing but remove green water (kill free floating algae) which is very important for a pond in direct sunlight... but is not very useful at all for an in home aquarium... thus I suggest not spending the extra few bucks on the UV light...

Also you have to remember ponds have alot more surface area exposed to the air...this is how they are able to rate these pond canisters at higher gallonages...
18 bio-balls is certainly not "way more Bio" in my opinion...

If you need more mechanical filtration, find a way to implement a micron sock system into your wet dry, something that can be serviced easily...;)

The only difference I can see is the pump is in the tank and not built into the canister.

You'll have to create your own plumbing with a Pressureized Pond Filter... and the pump does not "need" to be in the tank, although it is an option... In all of my experience running a Pressurized Pond Filter on an inhome aquarium I had the pump outside of the tank...

One more thing also .I don't think changing over to a pond canister will get you a cleaner tank! You may just need more agitation on the bottom of your tank!! ad a power head toward the bottom . Or zoo med makes a power head witch i own that rotates as water flows back and forth and stirs the whole tank giving intakes a better oppertunity to pic up the poop!!!I myself really believe the sump is a better way to go.You can design and change what ever you want! Nut case is helping me with design on mine.I am taking way to long tho!!
