Yep. I use this for plumbing pieces they rarely stock. Union ball valves etc... Free shipping is free shipping. You just wait a couple days, get an email and go pick up.

For indoor use you may consider the pond filter does seem more prone to leak over time and I think you would get more lifetime out of most canisters. I actually own both. Really the cheapest route is just buying a water pump and building a large filter.

I bought one then realised I needed a pump, I bought a pump to go inside the tank only to remove it all 10min later, it was so damd noisy...
Just a warning, my fx6's run almost silently.

Another consideration is the way the flow works. If the filter is above the tank I would want to pump the water in from the bottom and have it overflow into the tank. If it is reversed then during an outage the filter will drain leaving all the media high and dry. I am in the same boat trying to figure out how to filter some larger tanks without breaking the bank.

I don't see why I would get an FX for $200-$300+ when I can get the pump and filter for the same price or cheaper rated at least 2X the water volume....

As far as the model, I will have to check on it again, it was last year when I was browsing them - I doubt Lowe's/Home Depot carry multiple brands - i'm sure if you look online they probably only have 1 brand name w/ diferent sizes available, iirc, there wasn't a variety of manufacturers like at a LFS.

As far as used goes, I only do used if it's dirt cheap and I mean DIRT CHEAP. To me it's worth spending the extra money for a new one to get the warrantee and have a receipt in case you have to return it or call the manufacturer. WAY too many times I have had to send stuff back that was expired after store return policy and then some.

I looked over both sites, the ones reassembling a canister filter claim to be "pressurized" but require a separate pump. The reviews also indicate they frequently leak. My experience was they aren't as high of quality as aquarium filter. If a pond loses a few gallons no big deal, an aquarium is a whole different story.

For the most part, they both seem to carry the same generic product in the models I saw that were external. I'm sure amazon carries the same style in different brands.
