hi i just upgraded my pond to around 1000 gal .

i have a gravel upflow filter that takes care of most of the dirt but i cant get the water clear .

im 16 so funds are low so what is my best option for mechanical to polish off my water.

biological filtration is taken care off by my fist pond which is full of plants so what are your ideas

thanks fraser

Add more filtration to the main filter, ie: air conditioner filter pads, felt, or several layers of burlap (you asked for cheap :D ).

Fluidized bed filter.

2 AC 110's . :j/k: (that was for ewurm)

What kind of pump(s) are you running?

Bio-load?

Got any pics?

Dr Joe

.

For my ponds I have use a 5 gallon up-flow bucket full of poly floss the pump I use runs 300gph all togeather with 3/4 tube to and from pond (bucket is ugley had to hide it) the setup cost about $52

you could always use another pump to run water through a rubbermaid container filled with different pads and filter floss

You need to determine if the cloudiness is detritis and/or suspended solids or bacterial. Once you know, you can improve mechanical or biological filtration as required. I would investigate some KOI forums and sites. Koi are such big messy fish with a huge bioload and sift through the bottom and stir up muck.
KOI pond filtration principles are easily adaptable.
