Only problem with natives is that they're not meant to be seen from the top, that's why koi are so popular. Otherwise see what you can net up, all our ponds and ditches have something available. Start small if you can and let them grow to their surroundings. Natives do prosper better with a deeper pond tho. Shiners and most panfish flash nicely when they move quickly. Comets can grow large and take quite well to our weather.
UV sterilizers do keep the green away... as long as they can keep up. A pond in direct Fla sun can be a challenge. Dwell time in the UV vs pond volume is the key.
Also go for water hyacinth , water lettuce & different aquatic plants (all free, just rinse well before putting in the pond (and be carefull, some of this stuff is not supposed to be transported from its area))
